I think it's helpful do type in the correct pinyin, because repeating the answer helps me remembering it, but will the answer count as right or wrong? I want it to count as a wrong since I got it wrong before I actually saw the answer.

It counts as a correct answer.

I just re-type my answer but don't 'enter' it - so it still is counted as wrong but I get the practice of writing it correctly

Yes, this was not my intuition either but I've learned to live with it. I guess the idea is that if you make a typo you can correct it right there in the text box.

If you want it marked wrong, you can always use the grading button(s).

Simply clicking the next-button the answer stays "wrong". I always write the correct pinyin for practice, too.
