Lists with different study parts settings

Elwin   September 21st, 2011 10:19a.m.

Is there any way I can study only reading, tones and definitions for one vocab list, while in general studying all parts (also writing)? For most lists I want to study all parts, but for some I don't want to study the writing just yet.

I prefer to study these lists mixed with the other lists at 'study all my lists'. Seems I then will have to study the writing part as well.

It would be a nice feature to be able to chose which study parts you want to study for specific lists, another suggestion!

I would certainly find this very helpful too Elwin, as I only want to learn to write and pronounce high-frequency words, but would still like to learn the definitions of low-frequency words.

I know it would arguably be simpler to just use the Anki system (or similar) to practice my definition-only vocabulary, but I would prefer to use one tool for vocabulary SRS if possible.

It is theoretically possible to do it by hand, by changing the study parts as you add words from a particular list in order to get the combination that you want overall. However when I have tried to do this, I have found it very difficult to manage the different settings for different lists correctly in practice. So, at the moment, I have deleted all the lists from my study where I was only learning the definitions.

We'll talk about this one again soon. It's really a complicated thing, but perhaps we'll think of a simple-enough interface for it.

We've decided to finally implement this. We'll have it so that the list-specific study settings allows you to pick some subset of the parts you've got selected on the main account study settings, sort of like how temporary parts study does it. Scott's backend is looking fine with these changes, and we think the interface will be clear enough. I think it'll provide some welcomed extra power to your vocabulary selection abilities.

That's great, thanks!
