Mark as "done"

Hello,

I´m pretty new at Skitter and I hope one of you can help me.

I try to practice on paper as much as possible, to get used to it. Then I click on the "show" button to check my answer. If I wrote it correctly I then click "correct".

When I then go on to the next word, somtimes I get a "3" and sometimes I don´t get any result and I have to write it with my mouse. Is there any way to avoid this?

There are a couple of people who do the same as you writing on paper, although it may also be worth considering getting a wacom pen tablet. Which is also very good. Writing characters with the mouse only is horrible.

As for your question, I'm a little confused. if you click through to the next word without hitting the show button, it will be auto marked as good / '3' (this is so people can easily skip through stuff if need be). If you 'show' the whole character then it'll auto mark it as wrong, although you can, as you have been doing correct it after.

Alternatively, whether you have words right or not can be corrected by cycling through the coloured circle beside the characters.

Or is it a tone prompt coming up? You can use the number keys to select the tone if you don't want to use the mouse. There is never a '1,2,3,4' selector for tones in the character writing window (although, for the word, again, cycling through the coloured circle beside the pinyin works).

Or if you are in China consider buying a 蓝魔W10 or W12 on taobao.com or for a bit more in a shop, well worth the money...

@Byzanti: Yes in most cases there shows up the number behind the character. But sometimes it doesn´t until I write it with my mouse. It mostly happens with one-character-words. Maybe it´s kind of a bug?

@Elwin: Yes, I´m in Shanghai. This "蓝魔W10" looks interesting. Is it kind of an iPad? And can you write on the screen to do Skritter? Unfortunately I can´t read the Chinese website yet.

And are these technical devices a sufficient replacemant for "real" paper?

tarya92, I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but perhaps this link can help a bit?

I would say good enough yes (although I wouldn't personally want to do it on an Android tablet just yet -- it's apparently runs a bit slow, and I prefer to use a pen. Try it out first). Just be strict on yourself to whether you know the character or not. You would also need to turn on 'raw squigs' mode in the practice page option menu.

I presume what you're doing is sometimes not hitting the show key first, but rather just pressing next? Am I wrong?

Thanks a lot for the tip with the "raw squigs" mode. This helps a lot.

I think I will buy a tablet or a wacom. You said, you use a wacom because you want to use a pen. How do you write on a tablet then? With your fingers?

And do you have a special wacom you recommend? Or is any writing-tablet good enough? I saw a testing report about a "MonoPrice" on Skritter which wasn´t bad...

my W10 is fast with Skritter, you can use a pen, I prefer to use the opposite side of a pen that is oval, round. My roommate and a friend also bought one, good stuff. search W10 in the forum for more info.
