Sentences

Hi,

Are we allowed to add sentences into the dictionary?

I just dont revise my sentences as much as I should - my knowledge of characters and words is fantastic (thanks to Skritter)but I am failing miserably at trying to remember sentence patterns /word order on the spot.

I know some people use other flash card programs for sentences - I tried ANKI once but it just didnt work for me.

I feel if the sentences were in my regular skritter practice i would be able to memorise these sentence patterns more.

I plan to put just the key phrases from NPCR (the text has about 10 key sentence patterns each chapter). As this is such a widely used text by many universities, this would also be useful to others????

I just wanted to check first that this would not be a problem - not sure if others have done this or if it has been raised before...

Cheers,
Donna

I've put all sorts of crazy things in and nobody seems to complain.

yes the Skritter people have said it's fine. I've added verses from poems and subway stations and street names.

When you said anki didn't work for you, any thoughts as to what you didn't like? One of the downsides of the power it provides is that you do need to tinker around with it a fair bit to find a style that you like.

At the moment I'm having a lot of fun with http://www.zhongwenred.com/
With Anki you can include sound, so I've been making not only cards where you can listen to the sentence before you, but also cards where I only get to listen, then I have to write down what I think I've heard. Somewhat laborious, but I find dictation really rewarding. Just do it in small doses each day to avoid getting a sore hand.

edit: whoa - something wrong with the forum here - I clicked on this topic and it showed me the posts from a different one, which is what I was trying to respond to...

You can listen to the lessons at chinesepod.com at no cost. They discuss the dialog after you've heard it several times. The discussion is often about grammar and usage.

@FatDragon: that's a bug with the memcache for forum posts. Those kinds of bugs are always fun! They happen mysteriously and randomly and rarely. Anyway, thanks for letting us know, the next upload will have that fixed.

thanks all for your advice, sorry not replied earlier been out in the wilderness for a break, now not looking forward to getting those reviews down...

I will start adding the key NPCR sentences then as I go, so anyone studying from this text should find them in there - I will be starting from middle of book 3 though.

Cheers,
Donna
