there are some problems with custom definitions or defintions in languages other than English.

Although I switched skritter to German, it keeps showing me English definitions. One could think, that for a particular character or word there is just no translation aviable. But if you take a closer look, in the detail box you can see the "correct" defintion. So skritter is seems to be using different sources. I took some screenshots to show you what I mean:

Also the list of radicals of a character uses only the English defintions and not custom ones or defintions in my default language.

Another annoying issue is that sometimes my custom definitions are replaced by what seems to be custom definitions by other people.

Felidae, it seems, that your English definition shown in your picture is not equivalent to the original English definition. Can it be, that this is already a custom definition? You can check this under "My Words => Custom Definitions". If this is the case, then it overwrites the standard German definition, which you've seen in the "mouse over" window. Scott is working on a feature, to have the ability to delete one's own custom definitions, but he said, it will take some time.
The detail boxes normally show only the standard definitions, not custom definitions.
If you submit a correction as "shared" and it is accepted, than your definition becomes the standard. If than later this definition will be changed again, then you see a changed definition. But this should happen only rarely. If you submit a correction or translation, which is not in the normal Skritter layout - e.g. adding grammatical explanations, I reject it, so that you can keep your custom definition and I take just the relevant parts out for the standard, so as to comply to the Skritter layout.
As far as I know, the character component definitions are coming from a different list than words and characters. So, if you have a custom definition of a character and this character is also a component of a more complex character, than there are still 2 different definitions in Skritter. Nick wanted to look into this and see, how this can be synchronized, but I am not sure, whether this would also involve custom definitions (I believe not, only the standard definition, which would be helpful already).

Or is it that you're using heisig keyword definitions, that are in English?

Byzanti was right, heisig keywords were actually enabled. I now turned it off and it seems to be the reason for my first issue.

For the detail boxes it would be good to show custom defintions instead of standard definitions, too. So that there'll be only one defintion for a word or character shown at all places. Maybe this feature could be included in the next time.

The strangely changing defintions were certainly not updated standard definitions. They more looked like a custom definition of another user. And if I change a defintion, I don't submit it as shared correction, so there's no reason for it to change anyway. I'll have a closer look, if it happends the next time.

Hi Felidae. When you make a custom definition, that should remain the same it's true. Unless we accept your definition, and then tweak it some time later, but that should be very rare. Could you provide some examples of words whose custom definitions have disappeared, or places on the site where it shows a different definition than other places? I did a quick look around your account but couldn't find anything. Thanks!

Hi scott, I just noticed that the definition of the word "而" changed from default German to default English. Happend to some other words too. The weird thing is, in the detail box, I still can see the German definition.

Hmm, I'm not seeing it now. Is it only happening some of the time, for those words that you're seeing in English? And you're seeing the English when the words come up on the study page, right?

Yes, sometimes a word in German becomes English on the study page.

Sorry, I'm still not totally clear: Is it:
1) Each specific word (like 而) shows up in English sometimes, and German sometimes, or
2) Some words (like 而) always show up in English, while other always show up in German?

A specific word, for example 而, shows up in German. That's how it should be like, because I have all my definitions in German. Then suddenly this word is showing up in English (on the study page). But when I then let skritter show me the detials on this word, I still can see the German definition in upper left corner.

If it's only happening intermittently, then that's a strange one indeed. I've added some logging statements that might help me get more info about this. Can you update this thread the next time you see this happen, so I can go grab the logs?
