Fonts that support 囍 and how it relates to wedding decorations

mutoidman   March 3rd, 2010 3:10a.m.

Hi everyone on Skritter!

I'm getting married to a beautiful Chinese girl (my reason for being here in the first place!) and our upcoming wedding has a mixture of Eastern and Western traditions. I'm trying to build a logo for the dance floor spotlight and for the life of me I can't find a good pattern for the good ol' 囍 "double happiness" character to go in the middle.

I'm looking for something that looks like brush strokes, semi-cursive or stylized, and NOT this one: http://www.saltspring.com/oldisland/images/181_Double_happiness.gif it's everywhere and it's not what I want. I'd like to build it from a font, but there seem to be very few that have this character. It may have to be a Unicode-only font, but honestly I'm pretty uninformed when it comes to Chinese character sets on a computer.

Anyone out there have any ideas to help me fulfill my mission for great justice?

congratulations then!

I don't have many chinese fonts installed, but serching for "囍" on google images gives you a bunch of styles.

What d'you think of these:

Double happiness just so happens to be my Avatar :D Sadly, I don't know of many other fonts for Chinese other than the SimSun default. I've tried installing several Chinese fonts from http://www.sino.uni-heidelberg.de/edv/sinopc/chinese_fonts.htm, but none of them have the "囍" character in their index. Let us know if you have any luck finding one that works :D

Thanks for getting back to me! Yeah, Ibid, the one from the avatar is that one that always shows up on Google Image Search. I did manage to "un-tilt" it in a photo editor, but it still didn't meet with approval.

Karaipyhare, thank you for finding these :) Something I found last night:

Small world, eh? :)
That version is the front-runner so far.

This is very slightly different from the ones you like: http://www.chinese-tools.com/jdd/public/callitext/128197431501267639773.png

Oops, that didn't work. I'll mirror it on my own site: http://buphy.bu.edu/~sdcohen/xi.png

Congratulations mutoidman. If you don't have any luck making your own I have a Chinese artist friend who might be able to help, let me know if you're interested and I could ask.

mutoidman   March 3rd, 2010 4:35p.m.

Thanks Xerxes, that one's pretty good too :)

Thanks ximeng! That would be awesome! We're trying to find one that looks like this one:

As good as I think I am with a photo editor, I'm terrible with freehand, which is what I think I would have to use in order to lift that symbol from this very, very small piece of a low-resolution photo. See how the 口's are drawn with two strokes (one down and then a 'z' shape)? It looks all relaxed and modern. Kinda trendy.

Thanks again for the help and the kind words, you guys.

I can't look at your image right now, but have you tried Vectormagic for Vectorization? http://vectormagic.com/home

ximeng   March 8th, 2010 2:35p.m.

mutoidman if you're still looking for help on this, my artist friend said she'd like to help if she can. You can contact me via twitter.com/dximeng. I've sent an email to George and Scott too asking for your email address, but thought I'd send a message through the forum as well.
