Items for Review

voldermania   December 15th, 2009 10:21a.m.

Hello!
Is there any way I can just go over the items for review? The one's I keep getting wrong over and over?
Thanks!

That's the standard practice. :)

If you get them wrong, they'll show up more frequently until you start getting them right and then show up less and less frequently.

If you're having trouble getting items to review to show up (sometimes happens) try refreshing the page.

I would also love to have a quick link to add a word to a new word intensive review list.

I am trialing this site as my sole Chinese education tool and every now and then a new word with too many radicals and strokes hits me on the practice page.

I really hate getting a new word and then having to wait through review of it 30 easy characters later...

Since I'm usually using this site from a nice warm comfy bed, I'm too lazy to pick up pen and paper to create a list. And since I use a touchscreen in tablet mode for this site, copy and paste are tedious and touchy at best.

One of our planned features is a starring system. You'll be able to star and unstar words and study your starred words exclusively if you like. How does that sound? The stars will be there while you're practicing.

Sorry for taking so long to reply - I've been too busy skrittering to notice your post.

I incorporated the erase button into my workflow so when I hit a new character or a char I have troubles with, I write and erase a dozen times before advancing.

Also, after using the site for a month, I've finally developed a trust in the SRS metholdology so that I know that no matter how frustrating it is to draw a total blank on some words for the first few days after their introduction, I do end up finally remembering them.

The big problem I have with review now is that once a week or so I get hit with a monster seemingly infinite review queue that takes hours to clear and includes lots of words I already know and have marked as too easy.

I've done HSK 1 and am working through HSK 2 and am unsure whether this monster review is intended behavior or an anomaly. I'm not sure what the best workaround is. Deleting words seems too permanent - there's always chance I want to do a massive review ater on. Perhaps some way to tune the review threshhold manually?

It sounds like you may be adding words in large batches? And if a lot of those words you added in batches had a lot of words you already knew, then they would show up again in the same general time frame for the second round. I've been fiddling with the randomness factor to try and get the words to be more generally spread out so these massive spikes don't happen as much but they seem to still be a problem.

These words that you marked as too easy, do they show up again after that review? All words are scheduled for review at some time or another, but the interval between studies should be growing very fast.

How many words that you add do you already know?

We'll see if we can figure out why this has been happening.
