Hi there,

Could any of you tech savvy people tell me how to upgrade to iOS 5 without losing all my apps...I have done a few searches and the advice all seems to vary, and I really wanna get this done quickly and correctly so I can start using the skritter app ASAP.....

I am sure there is a way to do this , why on earth this warning about losing all your stuff comes up when you go to do it I don't know, shouldn't apple be making it easier for people to upgrade?

Typically upgrading from one version of iOS to the next doesn't involve losing all local app data... Maybe you could give a bit more information on the warnings you are getting?

If you just click update in itunes and follow the instructions, a backup will be made, and it will automatically restore all your apps after iOS5 is installed.

'updating to iOS 5 .1.1 will delete all of the apps and media including iTunes store purchases on your iPad. To preserve your content apply this update on the computer where you sync apps music videos and photos. Updating on this computer will only preserve contacts, calendars, text messages and other settings.

The computer i am using is the computer I always sync to. But obviously this warning makes me nervous, and on doing s few searches it seems to be a big problem with many people losing all their stuff, and there are all these steps to do beforehand to prevent this, but they are all contradicting...

So byzanti, if I just go ahead, all should be ok? Off to bed now, but any help so I can get this sorted first thing in morning would be really appreciated ...thanks!

Err, if other people are warning you, then clearly I can't guarantee anything! When I upgraded my ipod at any rate, I just followed along with the apple instructions in itunes and didn't have any issues. I think it probably asked me if I wanted to backup first or restore after or somesuch, which I would have selected.

Just make sure you have everything backed up in any case, but that's true for anything computer related!

Didn't loose a thing when I upgraded to ios 6.

But make sure to transfer all purchases, then backup.

Then upgrade then restore.
