Accidental word add!

emma741   June 17th, 2014 6:11a.m.

I accidentally uploaded 100 new words to my list:
1. Can I undo this as I now have a huge number of reviews and my retention rate has dropped as everything is new and I don't recognize it!
2. now everything is saying it's new, even though there are some things I know I've done before!
Thanks guys! :)

If you just added the words to the list, you could either pause the list or remove the words from it before they get added, or if they are the only instance you can delete them from the list to remove any queued items. I see you have 200+ reviews (which is not so bad!), which would be previously studied items. You could also use the ban word feature to temporarily ban any items you aren't yet ready to study, which can be a good tip.

When you say the list what do you mean exactly? Is it my words? Because when I go to my words you can then add to my list.... I checked here when I made the mistake of adding them but it only seemed to show words i had seen?! Ugh I'm confused!

I did this the other day. Added 45 words instead of my usual 15-20 per day. By sheer coincidence, these almost all had at least one new character in, several had two, so I think I was faced with 50 or so new characters.

Since I'm on holiday i decided to take it on the chin and get on with it. Like you I found my retention rate dropped, but looking back now - a week or so later, I see there's a huge bump in my progress stats.

So my guess is it will even out over time and the retention will return to previous levels.

@emma741: Words to study exist in lists, so if you added 100 words to a list accidentally (and they are sitting in the list waiting to be studied), you can remove them from the list. If they've already been studied once, and the words in the list don't exist in any other list, you could delete the words form the list to also remove any pending queue items. If you search for a word in "My words" and then click on it, it will tell you which lists the words have been added from. You can view all of your lists that you are adding/reviewing words from via: www.skritter.com/study, and be able to modify the contents by clicking the list name itself. If you need more help with this just let me know!

Hi Jeremy! Thanks for your ongoing help. I am currently working from 3 lists!! When I go to the study page many of the words have a green dot next to them. How do I know whether I've studied them or not? Do I then need to go to my words to see?

If I remove them from the list does this delete them forever? Or does it just remove the green dot?

Thanks, Emma

As an experienced accidental-word-adder...

The green dot means that they have been added to your studies. If you don't want to study the word at all, then delete it from that list - if it doesn't appear in any other lists, you will never see it again (until you add it to a list again, and it is added to your studies from that list).

If you aren't ready to study the word but don't want to remove it from the list it's in, then you can ban it. That just stops it from appearing in your studies until you unban it.

Hope that helps :)

You can also ban a bunch of them and the unban them little by little. I've used this trick before.
