Android Devices

Hey All,

With the release of the Android Open Beta, I'm in the market for a new phone. It's a good excuse to finally say goodbye to my 6-year-old candybar.

If anyone has any recommendations I'd be glad to hear them. I've just started doing my own research, and I have a question: I've found a couple of phones with an OS based off Android, such as OnePlus One, and Xiaomi. Neither of these phones will support the Android App, is that correct?

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for yet, not do I have a budget.

Cheers

Going to buy a new phone myself next month, and I will of course buy a real phone, and not an i-phony.
There are many android phones to chose from, but the samsung galaxy s5 is always a safe bet. It's great in every department, and really has no downside unless you simply really dont like the way it looks.

HTC One m8 is also a great phone with a more metallic look, but it's not as durable to physical abuse as the s5.

Sony Xperia Z2 is also a great phone thats waterproof, has great battery life and a really good camera (they all do these days).

I am pretty sure that the android app will work on any phone thats based of an android OS.

I can't speak for OnePlus One, but Xiaomi uses Android. The only difference is their user interface (call it a "theme") that is a somewhat further departure than most phones, but it's still Android. Both Samsung and HTC use their own interfaces too (Samsung's is called Touchwizz, not sure about HTC).

And please, leave the phone bashing out of these forums. A phone is a tool, not a religion.

Skritter app for iphone works great on ipad mini and iphone 4 and 4s.

If you use anki, i can tell i have some issues using it on iphone 4 (which i really use as an ipod at home) but i relly like more to use anki on a tablet because i use it for sentences and they tend to be too small or too long to fit on a phone.

The battery on these advanced phones tends to last less than a day. And those people with android devices like to have a second or third spare battery to swap during the day. iphone users can't swap the battery but they say the retina screen is wonderful. both samsungs and apple phones tend to fall to the ground and become useless so be very careful. Samsung has launched 1 or 2 water and dust resistant phones which may be worth looking at (but probably make it harder to swap batteries). Samsung also has an advanced battery saving mode which may become very iseful. In fact i think the samsung has put on cooler features than apple (like NFC, better powersaving, waterproof) but the other androids don't have these stuff(and are quite cheaper). On the other hand the iphone 5s has a fingerprint reader that you may use to unlock the phone (i'm really not sure that that such a great idea).

Ive been using skritter html5 and app on my Samsung Note 10.1 tablet and my galaxy s4. Both are amazing devices. I would of course recommend the new galaxy s5 as mentioned above. I suppose it depends on budget but android are more affordable and have removable storage and a removable battery.
With iphones of course you pay a crazy amount for but the build quality is amazing.

I must admit that I would jump on the apple band wagon but theres no chance unless they have the added features like on android (removable storage and battery).

I guess its just down to personal preference but now that android is now with skritter I say go samsung galaxy s5!
