Timing of new items

Would it be possible to have more control over the timing of the introductions of new items?

I'm normally starting the day with about 100-150 reviews queued, and the behavior I'm seeing is that I need to work my way almost all the way through that list before it starts introducing new items. When I get the review queue close to zero, it starts rapidly introducing a bunch of new items.

What I'd prefer instead is for the new items to be gradually introduced as I'm working my way through the review queue, so that I'm mostly reviewing old items, but with an occasional new item thrown in.

I've currently got my "Add word frequency" setting on "From time to time". I've tried the "Infrequently" and "Rarely" settings, but they didn't seem to make much difference.

Would setting this to one of the "earlier" settings help with this issue, or is there some other way to exert some control over the timing of new items?

The way you describe is how it ought to be working, with items added gradually as you go through the queue. The way it adds is by probability; the fewer items you have left to review the more often it adds new times. So it should be adding as you go through the review queue, and then speed up gradually as you get through it. And yeah, you might want to try one of the earlier settings, and then you'll get more added while you got through you're queue. Let us know how that goes, and if needed maybe Nick can tweak it some after he gets back at the end of the week.

I have the same thing. I was also going to suggest that it would be awesome to be able to set a preferred "new items" per day number. Because what tends to happen is I get to the end of my review items list, and then get slammed with like 10+ new characters. Unfortunately, with the time I'm normally able to spend per day, 10 is too much. It would be great if I could limit it to say 5 per day or some other random number.

I'll work on the adding frequencies soon, as soon as I fix a Genius bug that's been mucking them up. Until then, it probably won't add very well while you've still got review to do.
