Skritter problems

taylor04   December 18th, 2009 7:04p.m.

My Skritter is acting up tonight, had Skritter freeze up, so I clicked practice again to reload it and did another character and it froze again. Now I have characters immediately reappearing in the same order, I think its 衬衫,糟糕,颜色,暖和, I've done this sequence at least 4-5 times, getting it right every single time. Then they will pop back up a minute later saying still learning. I hope by hitting practice it'll fix the problem but wanted to inform you

taylor04   December 18th, 2009 7:11p.m.

Small update, hit practice page and still in the same cycle, restarted browser and still in the same cycle. I guess I'll be done Skrittering tonight hehe. Whenever you guys see this, could you also reset the learned on those for me? For example, I checked the vocabulary viewer and I shouldn't see 糟糕 for another 14 days, but it was a new word 15 minutes ago.

jeremy   December 18th, 2009 7:26p.m.

I'm experiencing something similar with a loop of four characters.

arp   December 18th, 2009 7:30p.m.

I'm getting the 4 character loop, too. Tone practice.
In writing practice I was getting different characters, but one kept repeating about every third time.

themagicpen   December 18th, 2009 7:40p.m.

Same thing here.

arp   December 18th, 2009 7:40p.m.

Now working in definition only. Seems okay so far.

Byzanti   December 18th, 2009 7:58p.m.

Refreshing a lot as Skritter's freezing up more than usual. (Adding new words atm), but have noticed that new definition prompts aren't showing up.

nick   December 18th, 2009 8:00p.m.

I just uploaded a possible fix ten minutes ago. Is it better?

Byzanti   December 18th, 2009 8:06p.m.

I'm still getting a lot more freezes than usual. Have only seen one definition prompt out of the 11 words I've added so far.

Byzanti   December 18th, 2009 8:06p.m.

(Although of course this is a different issue :p)

nick   December 18th, 2009 8:08p.m.

The definition prompts will now not come right away, but will probably be spaced out by at least an hour so that your first review of the definition isn't as spoiled by your recent review of the writing.

Please describe the freezes you're getting. Do they still happen if you turn adding off temporarily?

Byzanti   December 18th, 2009 8:18p.m.

Actually, the last ten minutes has been perfect.

Often get freezes in Skritter (although just then was about 3x worse than usual).

I guess it probably is when adding new words - since I notice it most after using Skritter for a while. I'll complete a character, then the "..." will appear in the top left hand corner, and I'll need to refresh to continue. No big deal really.

Good idea to space out the definitions though.

arp   December 18th, 2009 8:19p.m.

Everything's working for me now. Thanks. I never was getting the freezes though. (Chrome on MacBook Pro).

sarac   December 18th, 2009 8:30p.m.

After an hour of repeating loops of four chars/words (usually "still learning"), I face a refreshingly new lineup. However, I am not certain how I can cope with the "200 added" today. This afternoon I found the only way out of the loops was to add chars, so now I have to deal with the backlog...
Thanks for working on the problem. Must have been related to definitions... once I added new chars, I'd get a bunch of def practices.

brendonl   December 18th, 2009 10:04p.m.

After refreshing for new code, I know have 200 added new words. I am on chapter 5 but getting words from Chapter 13 so too advanced. Overload. Any way to get back to my original list and rate of new words added? Thanks.

nick   December 18th, 2009 10:26p.m.

Sorry about the crazy word adding thing. Brendon, I've set you back to chapter 5 and removed the words from chapters 6-13 for you, although I'm not sure if there were other lists added at the same time. Let me know if you are still seeing too many new words to practice and I'll get down and dirty with the database on them.

Sara, because you're studying from more lists, it's trickier. I'd recommend using the "save me" feature to spread out those new words over the next several days--I think that my recent change will make it work such that new words can be spaced out successfully. Let me know if that works.

gacorley   December 18th, 2009 11:09p.m.

I'm just having it freeze after one or two reviews.

muir   December 19th, 2009 12:25a.m.

I'm experiencing the same frequent freeze issue.

DojiStar   December 19th, 2009 9:05a.m.

Good to know about the inadvertently added characters issue. I was afraid I had gone senile ("Have I seen this before? I don't THINK so..."). Still having issues with frequent freezes, though.

shinyspoons   December 19th, 2009 9:23a.m.

I am having problems to. Skritter is not giving me any characters to review, so Im stuck just learning new ones at the mo.

nick   December 19th, 2009 10:22a.m.

Very sorry for all the problems. I've uploaded another fix for these--please let me know the new situation.

I've credited you all with a few days to help make up for lost time.

gloria   December 19th, 2009 10:56a.m.

Same problem as these people. There is a cycle of only 4 words. What to do?

nick   December 19th, 2009 11:15a.m.

Gloria, which four words?

shinyspoons   December 19th, 2009 11:58a.m.

whatever you did hasn't done any thing for me. I can still only learn new characters - even when i switch adding new charters to manual and don't add any new ones to learn.

nick   December 19th, 2009 12:40p.m.

Try now, shinyspoons. It looks like there was a huge boatload of new items left over from the earlier bug. I've manually pushed off the ones you hadn't gotten to for 3-4 days, but the ones you had seen will be in your review queue as normal--you can use "save me" to push them back if it's still too much. (I did push off a couple hundred of them for you this way over the next 2 days).

Timezones in ActionScript are about as fun to deal with as they are anywhere else, which is to say not very much.

shinyspoons   December 19th, 2009 9:14p.m.

It worked, cheers.
