Styli

So, there's been a lot of discussion of the benefits of using a stylus with iOs skritter, and some people have offered useful advice. Now we've got the app and everyone can try them out, which is best? Pros/cons/price? What's better for iPhone/iPad? Definitely looking to invest in one!

Byzanti   June 14th, 2012 7:11a.m.

Out of the few I tried, the iFaraday RxII was the best one. Don't need to press hard, no drag on the screen, can write at a normal writing angle, good size. Downside (not that it bothers me) is it's that there's no rubber grip or somesuch. Also, the cost.

Talafar   June 14th, 2012 7:26a.m.

I'm considering buying this one, but would like to hear everyone's views. I was about to make this thread! :)

I still stick to my finger.

Basically I think there is so much crap sold for Apple devices, that I just don't wanna waste money on a stylus just to check whether it fits my needs or not.

I am interested though in reading what others have bought so far :)

Elwin   June 14th, 2012 9:06a.m.

I've bought this one, very satisfied. At first I was pissed off feeling i had wasted money because when pushing it it bends in a little while I thought I had bought one that wouldn't, but seems all of them do and I just needed to get used to it for ten minutes. . . It reacts very well, no annoyances or anything.

But best is to search '手写笔' and this brand and some others come up along with very cheap ones. Just read the reviews well and look at whether the product looks professional, well finished.

@Talafar, that one's good too, the reviews here seem positive and that it's a 正品

But obviously I and many of these reviewers have no idea how long it's gonna last, I think this one will last longer than the previous one I had, I just advice you to buy one that is coming from a 'genuine company' and is a 正品. So basically that means spending a little bit more money on it.

In Chinese cities there are many people selling phone covers on the street and replace them on the spot. A guy seduced me to spend 10 kuai more on another cover (I initially refused but he ignored me in a strangely smart way and did it anyway) but turned out it was the right choice, no humid fingers traces on the screen and smoother writing with the stylus.

Bohan   June 14th, 2012 11:00a.m.

the reason I want to get a stylus is because my hands sweat a lot. I want one with a rubber grip, because I'll probably wear a cotton glove, and if there's no rubber grip I would be able to hold the pen tightly

I tried this one from a friend today;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000ETU944/ref=mp_bxgy_p_dp_y

And found that it was fine. Only problem was that the iPhone 3GS wobbles about all over the place! But that's not really a stylus problem.
You have to press a little harder than I'd expected (never used one before), so maybe durability is an issue. But skritter is more demanding than most uses anyway so the reviews on amazon aren't all appropriate.
Also, my hand ached after a bit, due to holding it above the phone rather than resting on the desk as with paper or a tablet.
Overall probably going to buy one as the next step up is out of my price range.

Catherine, I ordered:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BoxWave-Slimline-Capacitive-Generation-Blackberry/dp/B000VSWT1E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1339694582&sr=8-2

based on the

"This stylus is super long and slender, moreso than any I have or have tried in the past. The rubber end is firmer and very small, with no "squishy air pocket" inside, no "drag" making it great for precise drawing or note taking on my iPad. I definitely recommend it for those usages."

review at the bottom of the screen.

Should arrive next Tuesday or Wednesday. Will let you know if it lives up to that 5 star review.

I just bought a stylus an hour ago for my iPad. I went to Best Buy and bought what looked reasonable, which turned out to be a Griffin stylus for $15. It works just fine. It might not be the thing to use for artists, but it works just fine for writing and tapping on icons.

It *definitely* works a lot better than my finger. It is a much closer simulation of writing with a pen.

夏普本   June 16th, 2012 5:39a.m.

Is a stylus really much better for using on iPad. Currently I just use my finger and it feels fairly good. I am used to writing on my phone. I don't really hand write unless I have to. Do you find it easier to hand write after using a stylus as opposed to using your finger for skritter.

Catherine :)   June 16th, 2012 6:02a.m.

@bjnsharp I think it's much better and more natural. Not as big a difference as mouse vs. tablet on the computer, but enough for me to shell out £7.

Byzanti   June 16th, 2012 8:07a.m.

It's also less tiring!

zhangyanglu   June 16th, 2012 8:39a.m.

What I would also like to know is: those of you who already have one, do you actually take it with you all the time? I figure I would forget it most of the time at home, knowing myself... :o)

Byzanti   June 16th, 2012 11:55a.m.

Yep! Alongside my wallet, ipod, phone, keys, compass etc, it's an essential part of stuff I carry in my pockets :p.

范博涵   June 18th, 2012 7:19p.m.

Catherine, the BoxWave slimline stylus works great and is pretty cheap at £7/8.5 euro/$10. I ordered a second one as a spare. However, I still find myself Skrittering mainly using mouse and PC at work and my Wacom Bamboo, attached to a 6 year old Dell D620 laptop, at home.
