Looks like the Great Firewall or something like it is preventing you from completely loading www.skritter.com because it is hosted on Google App Engine, which is periodically blocked. Try instead our mirror:

This might also be caused by an internet filter, such as SafeEyes. If you have such a filter installed, try adding appspot.com to the list of allowed domains.

Skritter Blog not available in China

gacorley   October 14th, 2009 3:57a.m.

I notice that when I click on the blog updates I can't get to the page. Is this just me or is it happening with other Skritter people in China? I can't think of any real reason for it to be blocked.

Sorry, clicking, "blog" at the top works. maybe something about the redirect to a specific post that's causing issues?

sonorier   October 14th, 2009 4:05a.m.

same is happening for me.

Same here, I hadn't read the blog in ages because I thought I couldn't get it at all, when one day I accidentally clicked the blog link at the top of the page instead of clicking individual entries on the home page and BEHOLD! It worked.

Thanks for the heads-up...I finally got to read a few recent posts today...

Try going to

http://blog.skritter.com/

and

http://blog2.skritter.com/

The former uses the reverse proxy we have so we don't get blocked from China as part of some large group blockage. My guess is blog works and blog2 doesn't work, is that the case?

Nicki   October 14th, 2009 10:14a.m.

Yes, that's correct. Perhaps the links to blog entries on the home page could be changed? A lot of people probably just give up after clicking those and not getting there. We have so much blocked these days that we are just kind of resigned. At least that's the way I feel.

gacorley   October 14th, 2009 11:09a.m.

Yes, "blog2" won't work but regular "blog" is fine. I had noticed "blog2" in the urls but didn't think much of it.

How is it that it can get blocked. I know that third party blogging platforms like Blogger and Wordpress.com sometimes get a blanket lockdown (I haven't been able to directly access my wordpress.com blog for a while -- yay for post-by-email), but I thought a blog hosted on your own site would be fine unless it got specifically targeted or keyword-filtered.

The Skritter blog is hosted on Blogger, and Blogger is always blocked.

Sure I'll fix the links on the home page. Must have accidentally made it go to blog2 when I had to change some things with it a while ago.
